Star Wars Episode 7 Could Be Delayed SIX MONTHS?

Harrison Ford's broken body causes a great disturbance in the force.

Scary times for Star Wars fans - there may be a great disturbance in the force that could push back the release of the much anticipated Episode VII.

Actually it's the more serious than originally thought injury to Harrison Ford that may cause problems for the production - with the fact that the injury sustained by the Han Solo actor on June 12 proved to be a broken leg rather than a broken ankle meaning that Disney and Lucasfilm's plans for the film are now reportedly in doubt.

According to Metro.co.uk meetings were held at Pinewood studios yesterday that could see it miss its release date of December 18, 2015 - with production possibly pushed back by six months. The delay in production may be good for one aging sci-fi star however - with Tom Cruise reportedly in talks for a cameo role.

Ford's age and injuries mean that he'll need to be extremely careful with his timescale for returning to filming. He had originally only hoped to be out of action for 8 weeks but is now in rehab after surgery. If the release date does slip then that could be exceptionally difficult for the studio- as a stand-alone Star Wars flick is set for release in 2016 and a number of other blockbusters, including the Avatar sequel are due for release that year. Star Wars Episode VII stars John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Domnhall Gleeson, Oscar Isaac Andy Serkis, Gwendoline Christie and Lupita Nyong'o, as well as the three main cast members from the original trilogy - Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. The film carries huge hopes for Star Wars fans who were distinctly underwhelmed by the series of prequels released between 1998 and 2005. The fact that respected Star Trek director J.J. Abrams was placed in charge raised hopes for the next movie greatly, but fans may now have to wait even longer to see Han, Leia and Luke back in action.
