Star Wars Episode 7: Why Andrew Adamson Should Direct

1. He Returns to His Projects, Is Willing to Collaborate, and Has a Track Record of Success

2001 is the year Dreamworks nabbed the Best Animated Film award away from Pixar, as Shrek defeated Monster's Inc. (though, I don't necessarily agree that it should have). But Adamson has been very successful with his work in the first to Shrek films, gathering critical praise. And while Narnia came off as a bit luke-warm critically, it was still predominantly favored. Adamson has also been able to return to his franchises, for at least two features with both. He's a director who knows both when to stay, and when to leave, and that's a quality I think we can all agree a director needs. And his willingness to collaborate with many different people on a project shows that he truly wants the best for it. Most people will say that Star Wars should not be one man's burden, some even pressing that Lucas, himself, could not retain the weight of his stories and proved so much with his prequels. But with Disney backing, Lucas in the wings, and a script being penned by Toy Story 3's Michael Ardnt, I don't see Adamson having a losing battle with Star Wars. He's not the big name, despite bringing home some big movies. But Andrew Adamson, in my humble opinion, would do very right by Star Wars and should certainly be vied up there with the greats. Who do you want to see blow up the Death Star from the director's chair?

Cameron Carpenter is an aspiring screenwriter, current film and journalism student, and self-diagnosed cinephile, which only sounds bad in certain circles. Devoted fan of comics, movies, theater, Jesus Christ, Sidney Lumet, and Peter O'Toole, he sometimes spends too much time on his Scribd and comicbookmovie.com, but doesn't think you're one to judge, devoted reader. You can follow him on Twitter to watch him talk to people you didn't know exist. Oh, and Daredevil is quite the big deal around here (my head).
