Star Wars: Episode 8: Everything We Know So Far

1. It'll Finally Shed Some Light On Rey's Parentage

The true nature of Rey's parentage was the single biggest question that The Force Awakens left up in the air.

Fan speculation has been rife, especially since the identity of mummy and daddy is integral to the character's appeal; Rey has been presented to us as a mystery from the start (how did she end up alone on Jakku? Has she been Force-trained before?) and her intriguing background makes us want to keep watching, and helps engage us with her plight.

It's a thread that Lucasfilm could have easily dangled for years, but fortunately for us, they're going to blow their figurative load in Episode 8 - according to Daisy Ridley, anyway. "We will see in a year,” she said, when asked by Vulture about Rey's family history. “Just sit tight on that question".

And, of course, Episode 8 is currently set to debut in December 2017, roughly a year from now. It's a relief to know that we won't have to wait until Episode 9 to discover who the mystery parents are, and it's a relief to know that we'll find out at all. The Force Awakens toyed with this plot thread to such a ridiculous degree that it felt like we'd never get an answer.

So mark your calendars folks; Star Wars: Episode 8 will be out next year, and we're set to receive answers to some huge questions before the credits have rolled.

He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
