Star Wars Episode 9 - 8 Most Outlandish Fan Theories

7. Rey Is Luke

Fans unsatisfied with Rey's parentage reveal in The Last Jedi have been working overtime to come up with other explanations for her true identity and lineage. Some people think she's a Kenobi, other's reckon she's a Solo... and then there are those who believe she's literally Luke Skywalker.

The idea for this stems from a scene in The Force Awakens, where Rey descends into Maz's castle and touches Luke's lightsaber (tee-hee). At this point, Reddit user dontforgetyourshoes thinks that Luke's power and essence entered Rey, basically making them one and the same - a reveal that will come in Episode IX.

This would apparently explain Rey's godly Force powers which seemed to appear out of nowhere, as well as explaining why Luke was switched off from the Force in The Last Jedi - his power was inside Rey.

Why It's Outlandish: Luke was switched off from the Force because he wanted to be alone, and he believed it was the right thing to do after the massacre at the Jedi Temple - a massacre he blames himself for. The movie made that clear, and there doesn't need to be another explanation.

Plus, Luke's story has been wrapped up, and this is too major a beat to randomly throw into a movie that already has a lot to do. And, you know, it just sounds silly.
