And there we have it. The title of Star Wars Episode IX is...

The Rise of Skywalker.

There had been numerous theories and predictions as to what the title would be, but no one seems to have guessed this correctly, and it joins the ranks of many Star Wars titles that are a little bit on the corny side, and also that could have various interpretations.

The most obvious is that it applies to Kylo Ren, who is able to find the Skywalker within him and rise above the Dark Side to return to the Light. That fits with the return of Palpatine too: ever since the beginning of the Saga, he's been tempting this family to the Dark Side, and finally, in their last movie, they can completely rise above him. It also nods to Palpatine’s hand in Anakin’s creation as well.

At the same time, though, it could also apply to Rey. No, not that she really is a Skywalker child after all, but as a means of taking on the name going forward. As Luke says, she has a thousand generations inside of her. She is the future. She is the hero and the hope of the galaxy. In other words, she is a Skywalker. Rey could take on the Skywalker name as a title of sorts, which would similarly be a Rise.

Or maybe J.J. Abrams just brings Anakin and Luke back from the dead and everyone lives happily ever after. You never know.

(Ok, we do. That won't happen. I hope.)
