Star Wars Episode 9 Trailer Breakdown: 16 Things You Need To See
15. Luke Returns
While the first person we see in the trailer is Rey, the first voice we hear is that of Luke Skywalker, with Mark Hamill already confirmed to be reprising his most famous role on last time.
"We've passed on all we know. A thousand generations live in you now. But this is your fight."
Assumedly, this comes from a Force Ghost version of Luke who comes before Rey at some point in the movie. The first part nicely fits with The Last Jedi, where we heard Yoda say that mentors are what the students grow beyond. The 'we' is interesting though - does this mean that Luke and some other Force Ghosts (at least Yoda, but perhaps Obi-Wan, and maybe even Anakin) have all been training her post-The Last Jedi? She never did get that third lesson after all.
The next bit is a little more intriguing, but it suggests that Rey is taking on the legacy Rey once had as the great hope and hero in the galaxy. The last part is rather conclusive too: this is her fight, and that's meant to be taken personally, given her relationship with Kylo Ren.
