A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away came a movie franchise that had fans on the verge of outburst - while still buying all the merchandise.

The Star Wars series is undoubtedly one of the biggest cinematic properties of all time and has profoundly impacted popular culture. Even if you've never watched the movies, you probably still know a lot about them, as the saga of the Skywalkers, extended stories and the universe itself have become a permanent fixture in our culture.

A major chunk of that comes down to the characters from this series, as they have varied from awful to incredible but have entertained along the way. One of the most important parts of that are the force-wielding, lightsaber fighting, emotionally detached space wizards known as the Jedi, who attempted to bring balance to the universe.

For all their flaws, these characters are still some of the best in any fantasy project - but not all are as strong as others. This list will rank every major Jedi from the live-action Star Wars canon by their individuality, impact on the plot, popularity and general presentation.

11. Plo Koon

If there's one thing you can say about Plo Koon, it's that he's certainly eye-catching. His deliciously practical, wonderfully Lucasfilm design is hard to ignore. While he does resemble a rotisserie chicken connected to a gas mask, he still looks like a badass and unique Jedi. Sadly, the same cannot be said for his characterisation in the prequel trilogy.

With the introduction of the council, it was clear that Lucas would need to up the Jedi numbers, and thus he introduced a whole host of them. But, the majority of the new Jedi were simple background characters with no lines and very little focus. Koon - and another upcoming character - just about dodged this irrelevancy bullet, but not enough to be unscathed.

Koon is a thoughtful, wise, and caring Jedi who treats Clone troopers with respect/dignity and plays a great mentor. But, you'd only know that if you watched the animated Clone Wars series, as in the live-action flicks he's little more than a quirky looking alien to place in the background and be shot down during Order 66. Which easily puts him at the bottom of this list.
