Mara Jade was such a skilled assassin of The Empire, The Emperor made her his personal Hand. Over the years, she was tasked with killing anti-imperialists, Rebels, and any person regarded as Force-sensitive. In the case of his death, The Emperor told Mara Jade that she could avenge him by murdering Luke Skywalker. But after Darth Vader killed Mara Jade's master, she lost all drive to avenge him, and instead became a smuggler.

During one mission, she found herself working alongside Luke Skywalker and soon developed a respect for the man she was once sworn to kill. When she had a fling with Lando Calrissian, she realised that she only wanted to be with Luke since she harboured feelings for him. After telling Luke about how she felt, he admitted he felt the same and the two got married soon after.

Tragically, Mara Jade was murdered by her nephew Jacen Solo, who had been corrupted into becoming the Sith Lord Darth Caedus.
