9. Saber Guard

Oh woah, suddenly the new lightsaber effect is only the second most awesome thing in this shot. For a first in the Star Wars universe the lightsabers have a hand guard just above the hilt. After double-bladed sabers, as well as dual- and quad-wielding in the prequels, it's nice to see a new dynamic added to the series' most iconic weapon. The safety of this is questionable, although that's also true of swords made of light that can cut through anything in general.
