2. This Is "Life Day"
And now, there's nothing stopping Chewie and his family celebrating Life Day. While the family time and wholesome home cooked meal seemed pretty great, once they start donning robes and conducting some sort of ceremony, it basically just seems like some super-creepy cult.
None of it is ever really explained, so you just have to go along for the ride and think of it as Space Christmas or something.
Eventually the entire gang shows up to meet Chewie, resulting in a genuinely depressing statement from C-3PO, where he says he wishes he wasn't mechanical so he could feel the joy of Life Day.
