The Force.net and Cosmic Book News have presented us with the latest Star Wars movie rumour, this time regarding a possible spin-off film outside of the upcoming Episode VII. Their source claims that there is an idea being tossed around regarding an Obi-Wan film. Apparently, it would be set between Star Wars Episodes III and IV with Ewan McGregor reprising his role from the prequel trilogy, during the character's exile on Tatooine. The source continued with the sensational claim regarding a possible return of the iconic Darth Maul as the film's villain. The rumoured plot would see Maul attempting to hunt down Kenobi to avenge his loss in their last encounter. Along with talk of a possible plot point involving a 5-year-old Luke Skywalker as bait for Obi-Wan. We can safely assume this isn't an April Fool's as the story was filed on March 28th, though ironically does come mere days after this excellent
WhatCulture article argued for an Obi-Wan spin-off. While there certainly is a case for a spin- off film for Obi-Wan, this rumoured plot idea seems dumb and doomed to both failure and ridicule. Aside from the obvious fact that we have already had this encounter before in the Clone Wars TV series... what good will this really do to the saga? I suggest taking this one with a dump truck full of salt. Cosmic Book News are also reporting that Episode VII will star a disciple of Palpatine, as they posted the following a few days ago:
"A disciple of Emperor Palpatine aims to rebuild the Sith Armies of the Old Republic and destroy the Jedi where the Skywalker children will be thrust into battle and face their inner demons of their Skywalker lineage."
These rumours are just some of the crazy speculation that will continue until an official announcement is made by Lucasfilm and Disney about what subjects will be covered in the new films. We will keep you updated as more Star Wars news develops.
