Created by George Lucas, the Star Wars franchise has become one of the most widely recognised pop-culture phenomena. Debuting back in 1977, it was impossible to imagine that in coming decades, an American epic space-opera multimedia franchise would become the world's most profitable and popular franchise.

Star Wars is loved for its technological wizardry, starships, designs, shootouts, aliens, and weird creatures. But the heart of the fan-favourite franchise are the Jedi. Their teachings inspire us, their use of the Force sparks our imaginations, and their struggles — embodied in the stories of Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker, Ahsoka Tano, and others — give us insight into our own.

For the longest time, the only thing the average movie-goer knew about the Jedi was that they were powerful users of the Force who protected the galaxy from darkness. We only had the words of Obi-Wan Kenobi to young Luke Skywalker in A New Hope to give us a hint of what the Jedi were like.

Then the Star Wars prequels came out, and we were inundated with Jedi. Jedi became a dime a dozen. You couldn't go five seconds in the prequels without running into a random Jedi.
