Star Wars: Rogue One - 10 Simple Blunders That Would Ruin It

7. A Twist To The Canon

Disney has done a solid job of reverting Star Wars back to a more simple status quo, removing much of the Expanded Universe to start a new canon so they can go forward without having to juggle a myriad of stories. The danger, however, is that they may now attempt to alter some of the more implicit elements that form the backbone of the main films, trying to correct the prequels or solve some of the underlying plot holes.

And there are plot holes - the Death Star was designed by Geonosians in Attack Of The Clones and was already in production by the end of Revenge Of The Sith. These are easy to get around with a solid screenwriter, but there's a risk things could be pushed too far.

The Force Awakens mostly continued the saga's existent themes and ideas, but did introduce a few changes to how the Force is perceived that laid groundwork for major shake-ups down the line. It would be very tempting with Rogue One to offer a further twist to the canon, but unlike with Episode VII, any changes would have a knock-on effect on the original trilogy and, if done poorly, could wind up changing how the narrative is perceived. I'm talking Snoke in the Bacta tank level twists.

Some progressive stories in the new Star Wars films are more than welcome, but Disney need to be careful of how that affects what's come before.
