7. If Vader Chases The Tantive IV, Why All The Pretense In A New Hope?

The Question: As Vader prepares to chase down Tantive IV in the Devastator at the very end of the movie, well aware that it contains the Death Star's plans (which he personally saw handed off), then why does he humour Princess Leia's "we're on a diplomatic mission" spiel and talk to her like the pair of them weren't actually at the battle moments earlier?

The Likely Answer: Most fans can probably just accept that the two movies don't quite slot together perfectly, and explain it away by saying that Leia lied because it's better than straight-up confessing, and conversely Vader was basically just toying with her, considering that he orders her to be locked up seconds later anyway.

Still, it's a shame the join between Rogue One and A New Hope isn't a little more seamless, entertaining though the attempt to connect the films mostly still was.
