Breaking up the shots of the nighttime battle, we quickly head back to daytime Jedha for a couple more scenes, one of which introduces an entirely new species that we haven't seen before.

Although there's no name yet for what exactly this alien creature is, it appears that its kind are denizens of Jedha, and will be joining in the fight against the Empire - at least for as long as the action is on their planet anyway, if not afterwards.
