17. A New Super Weapon

What follows might possibly be my favourite part of the trailer, a pair of shots that ooze Star Wars iconography, boast throwback visuals and capture that wonderful sense of scale Lucas did such a great job of in the original.

We open on a Star Destroyer, with focused lighting making it almost feel like it's a real model a la the Original Trilogy...

...and we then begin to pan around. Any Star Wars fan will know what that texture is (especially if you're up on the plot of the film), but that odd mechanism to side really threw me.

When I first saw that shot, my immediate thought was "OH MY GOD THAT LOOKS AMAZING!" My second was "that'd make a cracking featured image."

I'd not even considered that in this movie about Death Star plans we'd see the Death Star getting constructed, so this was a wonderful surprise. Seeing that laser dish put in place is quite simply a perfect summation of the movie, showing how it's the world we know, just a little bit before.
