2. A Cool Looking Villain

The mysterious figure is only on screen for a matter of seconds, but it looks like we're going to see a cool looking droid villain (or at least part-droid villain), who fights Han on the top of a speeding train.

General Grievous may have been rather badly let down in his execution, but there's no getting over how iconic that character was, and seeing a villain with the same sort of immediate visual impact is no bad thing.

It also provides a solution for the requirement to introduce a villain who needs to be a threat without being at all Force powered (since Han has to remain entirely dismissive of it beyond the end of this movie).
