6. Pacing

The pacing of Godzilla was one of the strongest elements of the film. It started off slow, gradually building and earning each set piece moment before the gigantic climax at the end, with the only blemish lying in the second act detour comprised of the train carrying some nuclear missiles. While a chilling set-piece in itself, there is no denying that it slows the pace down somewhat, which is what so many people complain about. Other than that though, the film moves at a breakneck pace of escalation that contributes significantly to the hopeless tone. There is no doubt, given Gareth Edwards' inclination towards suspense, that his Star Wars spin-off will feature a similar pacing style. Don't expect spectacular action sequences right out of the gate, especially considering that this film will most likely be a smaller scale character piece meant to compliment the trilogy. This is a good thing, as Edwards' classical blockbuster style should fit right in with the Star Wars franchise. Godzilla shows that his ability to build suspense is one of his greatest talents, so he definitely needs to bring that trademark of his to Star Wars. That being said though, he needs to remember...
