Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 10 Big Questions We Still Have No Answers For

9. Why Did That Star Destroyer Crash Onto Jakku?

When that image of a crashed Star Destroyer in a desert landscape first showed up during the film's second trailer, everyone lost their collective minds. Based on what we know from the trailers and what J.J Abrams has graciously decided to reveal, that dusty Tatooine lookalike is a new planet called Jakku and that's where we're introduced to the main character of Rey, a scavenger who makes a living by spelunking through crash landed space ships, including that enormous Star Destroyer, in search for scrap. But once the fan-gasming had subsided, a big question stuck out: why did that Star Destroyer crash there and why was that Star Destroyer near some remote desert planet in the first place? There is no clue as to why the Empire would have eyes on such a desolate desert planet, but considering that the Rebel and Empire conflict was a massive war that took place throughout the galaxy and a heap of battles have happened off-screen, it is somewhat plausible that an epic space battle had occurred just above Jakku between Rebels and a patrolling Star Destroyer. An epic aerial dogfight in space would've been awesome, but a spelunking sequence through a crashed Star Destroyer is a pretty good consolation prize.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
