Star Wars: The Force Awakens: 10 Biggest Rumours You Need To Know (Nov 13)

6. Luke Skywalker Is Also A Sith

If you spend any time on any of the hundreds of hyperbole-heavy Facebook groups and sub-Reddits dedicated to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, you'll know that there is endless debate and endless refutal of Luke's status as a bad guy. Saying as much is occasionally enough to see you banned for life: it's serious business. But it's getting increasingly hard to argue with the logic of the theory - particularly when it's suggested as eloquently as it was by Rob Conery at HuffPost. He suggests that the "good reason" that Luke isn't in the trailers or on the poster is that he has turned to the Dark Side. His evidence focusses mostly on the fact that it would be a better end to Return Of The Jedi, and that Yoda predicted the turn (and that Episode 3's defiance of his prophecy was a major character flaw). But it's all sorted now, because The Force Awakens will reveal that Luke has followed his father's Dark Side journey. Rating: 4/10 It depends really. If Disney want to use Star Wars to sell toys (the reason Luke was never turned to the Dark Side in the original trilogy) it will be unlikely, but JJ Abrams is often drawn to darkness and Mark Hamill himself has expressed interest in playing Luke as a villain before. So it might be iffy, but there is some evidence to suggest it is possible, particularly in Yoda's ROTJ prophecy:
"Only a fully trained Jedi Knight, with the Force as his ally, will conquer Vader and his emperor. If you end your training now... if you choose the quick and easy path as Vader did... you will become an agent of evil."
