7. No Lens Flare
If J.J. Abrams has one trait for which he's famous - or perhaps even infamous - it's his use of lens flare. He received a fair bit of criticism for using it too much on Star Trek, and even he admitted later it'd been slightly overdone. When Abrams was announced as the director of Episode VII, there were concerns about him bringing his favoured technique from one huge space saga to another. Only this time it was much more important to get it right, because this is Star Wars. Sorry, Trekkies. So while there may have been reluctance to see it brought into this world, we already know from the trailers that it's there. This includes the shot of Kylo Ren looking out onto that sea of red light and the Falcon blocking out Jakku's sun, to give but two examples of the ones we've seen so far.
