9. Starkiller Base Battle

Fast-forward to the end of the film and the Empire off-shoots, the First Order, are still seemingly unaware that enormous spherical star bases with gaping holes don't tend to last long. Still, if you look past the logic and logistics of the Starkiller Base, the battle that took place above it was sensational. It was a fast-paced, swashbuckling riot of colour instigated by one of many excellent new characters, Poe Dameron. Watching huge fleets of X-Wings and TIE fighters soar into battle once again was mesmerising, with throwbacks to the Death Star attacks including a trench (seriously, bad guys, you've GOT to stop building those). The resulting implosion of the planet was stunning, and the practical effects-heavy film proved it could also become a CGI masterpiece.
