4. We Should Stop Caring That Rey Is Female

Well, not entirely, but Daisy Ridley seemed keen to emphasise the idea that Rey isn't important simply because she's a female lead, which is as much a feminist statement as suggesting she's noteworthy for it. She said that Rey "will have impact in a girl power-y way... She's brave, and she's vulnerable, she's nuanced. She's not important because she's a woman, she's just important. She transcends gender. It's wonderful to be part of a crew and cast of wonderful women." Interestingly, Gwendoline Christie talked about her own experiences of playing a female character, and the difference in the way she was being considered;
"I was surprised and heartened to the overwhelming response to Captain Phasma, This is a character who, so far, we've related to due to her choices, her character, and not due to the way she has been made in flesh, which conventionally is how we relate to female characters."
She also talked about how Carrie Fisher's - who declared herself the "beginning of Girl Power" - strength, opening the door to another Harrison Ford quip:
"I assume you're not talking about the scene where she's in the bikini and sitting on Jabba's lap...? That's my favorite,"
