Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 7 Questions The Trailer Didn't Answer

6. Where Are Those Droids We're Looking For?

Speaking of things on the poster missing from the trailer, there's also the rather important presence of C-3PO - he was on the one-sheet alongside R2-D2 (who we've seen caressed by a metallic hand , probably Luke's), but is nowhere to be seen here. Given that the two pals are inseparable, that we know that C-3PO actor Anthony Daniels has been very much involved in The Force Awakens, and that are both nominally owned by Luke still, C-3PO is most likely in the area too. We also know that C-3PO's new red left arm will be explained in a comic, Star Wars Special: C-3PO #1, which is to come out in December. All we've really got to go on is this from Daniels in an interview with the Guardian in September: "While meticulously directing every moment of Episode VII, and giving 3PO time and space to do his thing, JJ is far too respectful to suggest that he change the droid€™s ways in any way. There was, however, some debate about a certain issue, whose outcome will become apparent in due course€" So, it sounds like the metallic equivalent of Bert and Ernie from Sesame Street are involved, and, in the case of C-3PO, very heavily so; the exclusion of 3PO in particular might well be a classic case of JJ Abrams keeping his 'mystery box' tightly sealed to preserve as much mystique as possible.
