Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 8 Major Revelations From The Filmmakers

5. Cameos From Obi-Wan Kenobi, Yoda, And More

There are a lot of unexpected and clever cameos in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but a couple were completely missed before being officially revealed by J.J. Abrams this week. These came in the scene which saw Rey have a vision of various moments in Star Wars history, and while the voices which could be heard throughout were a little tough to make out, they belong to some familiar faces. Frank Oz (the voice of Yoda) was brought in to perform new dialogue for the movie, but Abrams ultimately decided to use existing lines from The Empire Strikes Back. The voice that says "Rey" belongs to original Obi-Wan Kenobi actor Alec Guinness, with the director cleverly taking the "rai" part of "afraid" from one of his lines in A New Hope. However, the line which followed about these being her first steps came from Ewan McGregor, and the process of having him record lines for the movie sounds pretty fantastic: "He was awesome," Abrams said. "Incredibly sweet and handsome, and all that stuff. Then he rode off on his motorcycle. Literally the coolest voice over actor ever." Does this mean we'll see the actor play a Force Ghost in Episode VIII? There's clearly some sort of connection to Rey there, and it certainly appears as if this cameo may have set the stage for something down the line.
