Star Wars: The Force Awakens - 9 New Cast Members' Best Roles So Far

5. Max Von Sydow - The Hour Of The Wolf

He's 86, and he's been acting in feature films since 1949; basically, this means Max von Sydow is better than you, and choosing just one of his films as his best is hard. He's been a star longer than everyone else on this list combined, and he's featured in everything from Ingmar Bergman-helmed masterpieces (The Seventh Seal, The Virgin Spring) to complete and utter crap (Judge Dredd, Extremely Loud And Incredibly Close). Von Sydow made 13 films with Bergman, but one of the best displays of his acting capabilities can be found in the master director's oneiric horror movie The Hour Of The Wolf. Bergman's movie is a crazy psychological attack pretending to be a marital drama, and von Sydow is a crumbling, depressive mess in it. If you want a more recent primer (von Sydow was a much younger man in The Hour Of The Wolf), look to Minority Report, in which von Sydow plays a contemptible, duplicitous old man hiding behind the guise of a much more kindly old-timer. If rumours are to be believed, it won't be too dissimilar from who von Sydow is playing in The Force Awakens.
