Star Wars: The Force Awakens Is Fandango's Top-Selling Movie Ever

And all the tickets were sold before the film was even released.

Fandango, online and telephone retailers of cinema tickets across the US, are reporting that Star Wars: The Force Awakens has smashed previous record-holder Jurassic World's title for most tickets sold during a movie's entire lifespan at the cinema; the kicker being that every single one of those tickets were pre-sales, bought without the film having even opened yet. Fandango President Paul Yanover added; "The Force Awakens is a genuine cultural phenomenon. The extraordinary ticketing demand is truly unprecedented. It is Fandango€™s top-selling movie of all time, even before it has even hit theater screens. It€™s great to see that all fans can enjoy the Star Wars experience, as our theater partners continue to add new screens and new showtimes every day.€ Although Fandango declined to divulge actual figures, the implication is clear; when the box office receipts come in on Sunday, news outlets are going to have a field day with the info. My guess is, there'll be many a party to go to which for JJ Abrams and his executive producers. It's also encouraging that the massive box office The Force Awakens is going to attract is deserved; it's not just going to be a case of audiences attending because of brand recognition, but because it's actually a great movie that encourages repeat viewings. Star Wars: The Force Awakens is out now.
