With Luke's death scene itself, there was a question of 'would audiences understand what's happening?'In the end, Johnson felt like they're going to get that it's an incredibly difficult thing he's doing, that he's projecting himself, fooling Kylo, and the sheer effort that takes.

It was the most tweaked scene in the edit room because the emotion of it was so delicate, and he wanted it to be the antithesis of Han's death in The Force Awakens.
