Everything in Snoke's Throne Room (apart from Snoke) was a massive, real, practical set. The red, reflective floor was inspired by a production of Madam Butterfly by Anthony Minghella that Johnson saw and loved. The opulent set and gold cloak also go with idea of Snoke being theatrical, rather than the black-clad evil villain.

In order to have Andy Serkis on set, a huge mo-cap rig was built over the set, allowing him to interact with the other performers.
