According to the latest reports, "DJ" is not the villain he was initially billed as. He is either loyal or trustworthy in the eyes of the Rebellion, or he's appearing to be and they see potential in him.

Or maybe he is? It wouldn't be the first time a character appeared to be something they weren't, and as we are always reminded, Star Wars rhymes, so it would make sense that his arc might mirror that of Lando Calrissians. In other words a gambler who appears to have a trustworthy allegiance, but who is actually something initially more nefarious?

That would certainly fit with the early reports - from places like The Wrap - that said he was being sought for a villainous role, after all.
