When it comes to Star Wars, there's a fan theory about everything. Literally everything. There's even one claiming that Admiral Ackbar is Rey's father (seriously). Fans love to dissect and pick apart every single frame, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi - with its franchise-high 152-minute runtime - offers a lot of material to digest.

There are new characters, new settings, big reveals, small details, and some fans are even questioning the answers to questions that were raised in the previous episode. There's even more to discuss here than in The Force Awakens, with The Last Jedi throwing up more debates about its plot than we could ever have anticipated.

And debated it certainly has been: Rian Johnson's movie contains several huge moments that will be contested for years to come, and though it hasn't been out very long, the movie has sent Star Wars fandom into meltdown, with numerous major story beats sparking dozens of different interpretations and explanations.

These plot theories could be way off the mark, but in some cases, the fans may have answered a lingering question, or filled in a blank the movie didn't adequately address. Spoilers ahead!

8. Luke's Robes Have A Hidden Meaning

Visually, The Last Jedi was beautifully designed, with every single frame crafted to perfection and makeup, sets and special effects proving some of the best we've seen in a recent blockbuster.

Even elements as small as the film's costumes may contain details that are easy to overlook while watching, and in particular, the robes that Luke wears at various points in the story may give us an insight into his current frame of mind.

When Rey first bumps into Luke at the end of The Force Awakens/the start of The Last Jedi, he's wearing slightly off-colour (Ahch-To doesn't have a good launderette) white robes, as seen in the image above.

But then, for the majority of the movie, he dons his dark robes...

It's not until his final scene that we see him wearing the white robes again, and these are the clothes he's wearing when he fades away and becomes one with the Force.

It's likely that he was originally planning to kill himself while wearing the white robes, but when Rey arrived, he put this plan on hold and changed into his dark robes.

It's only at the end of the film - when he's ready to die once again - that he changes back into his white robes, sacrificing himself so his sister and her friends can escape the First Order.
