Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer Breakdown: 21 Things You Need To See
4. Luke And Artoo
Well hello, Rey's vision from The Force Awakens!
During that film the first shot we get of Luke Skywalker (and indeed the only shot we had of him in the marketing for that film) was his hand on R2-D2's head, with fires burning in the background.
There was no context to that shot, and it was fair to assume that it was from the past. That may still be the case, as there's a good chance why we're seeing here is the destruction of Luke's Jedi Academy - the event that led him to living in isolation. This is literally the same scene from Rey's vision, just a different angle.
The alternate possibility is that this is happening on Ahch-To, and means Rey's vision saw this in the future, not the past (what look like dead bodies, however, suggest it's the former).
It appears as though the First Order have found Ahch-To, even if Luke has managed to get away, and are laying waste to the First Jedi Temple. If the Jedi are to really end, then I guess destroying their first temple is some pretty heavily symbolism.
