Star Wars: The Last Jedi Trailer Breakdown: 21 Things You Need To See
15. The Balance
After the Dark Side and the Light, what is left?
"Balance."
Of the three things Rey 'sees', this is the biggie. Bringing balance to the Force is the major prophecy, something that the Chosen One was supposed to do, before he went and became one of the greatest Sith Lords to ever live.
It's always been a slightly obscured prophecy, because we've seen it from the Jedi point of view, who have believed it means the destruction of the Sith. Instead, however, true balance may actually lie in transcending both Jedi and Sith, instead becoming a balanced, more pure Force being.
We see a row of books being found, which presumably date back to the earliest days and teachings of the Jedi, and one of them seems to specifically refer to bringing balance.
The image we see here is the same image as we see in the poster for the movie, though there it's more obviously a lightsaber, and is the Jedi Order logo (and again, the theme of the poster, with Luke on one side and Kylo on the other, and Rey and the saber, which bleeds from blue to red, splitting them down the middle, is all about 'balance').
Then we get Yoda's line from The Empire Strikes Back, talking about the Force: "It surrounds us, it binds us."
Rey's a Yoda theory confirmed.
