Star Wars: The Last Jedi - What The Ending Really Means
5. The Resistance Is In Pieces...
By the end of the movie, about 95% of the Resistance is destroyed with their forces decimated, their armoury depleted and their resources left in tatters. Apart from the Falcon, they have a handful of wrecked vehicles stranded on an old base that the First Order now know about, you can almost count their personnel on a few hands and most of their leadership is gone.
Basically, they're going to need a hell of a recruitment drive in Episode IX or they're going to have to get even better at conquering the same kind of ridiculous odds that allow the survivors to escape the clutches of the First Order. They will no doubt rise again, but for now with no allies willing to break cover and less than a rag-tag group to call themselves an army, it's not looking good.
Regardless of Leia saying they have all they need.
