Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker Review - 6 Ups & 8 Downs
3. Leia
Carrie Fisher's death presented Disney and JJ Abrams with a huge, very difficult problem that was always going to be hard to navigate without some complaints, but this was not right.
Using footage shot for The Force Awakens, Abrams uses Leia sparingly, but it's glaringly obvious what's been done and it's all rather jarring. The dialogue used doesn't always fit and the acting and reacting around her interactions with characters is stilted and odd. It's all very uncanny valley and while it might have been the lesser of two evils, it still doesn't feel like this was the right way to go about it. As much as it's good to see more of Leia in principle.
There's also another deaging moment which has absolutely horrible effects for Leia's rendering and you'd think they would have learned by now on that front.
