Star Wars: A Visual History
4. Return Of The Jedi (1983)
Closing off the Original Trilogy, Return Of The Jedi ties up all the loose ends - Han is saved, Vader is redeemed and the Empire is defeated. Of course, it was far from the end of Star Wars.
The film is now regarded as the weakest of the classic trio, although this wasn't always the consensus - in 1994 Clerks saw two fans have a legitimate discussion of whether Empire or Jedi was the better sequel.
Gary Kurtz, producer of the first two movies, left during pre-production, finding Lucas' creative decisions distinctly uncreative. The first signs of the series becoming more marketing-minded.
