Star Wars: What Is Luke Skywalker's Role In Episode 9?

1. The Other Force Ghosts

Luke Skywalker may not be the only Force ghost we see in Episode IX. There have been rumours that either or both of Obi-Wan and Yoda will appear in the movie - with the former in the guise of Ewan McGregor - while rumours have swirled about Hayden Christensen's return since before The Force Awakens.

This movie is not just closing out the new trilogy, but the entire saga, so it could be quite fitting - and certainly within J.J. Abrams' sensibilities - to have a sense of things coming full circle and, even if the plot can't mirror Return of the Jedi (since elements of it were in The Last Jedi), there's a way of having some of it 'rhyme'.

To give full closure on the story of Luke and the Skywalkers as a whole, then might we see all of the other Force ghosts appear again, like the shot from Return but with Luke added to the mix. It's the kind of scene that would help make for an interesting, probably fan-pleasing climax, especially if it's a vision to a dying Kylo Ren (who has been obsessed with his grandfather and the past) or a victorious Rey who is about to launch a new Jedi Order.
