Stephen King: Ranking His Films From Worst To Best
10. The Mist
Frank Darabont's most recent Stephen King adaptation, struggles with the balance between human drama and the supernatural. Having previously helmed two of the more straight, horror-deficient King stories, Darabont threw himself into one of the author's strangest, most self-consciously pulpy works with The Mist, which he made using much of the cast and crew he'd later work with on The Walking Dead. The Mist has many of the same strengths and weaknesses of the zombie TV show, in fact. The set up is undeniably fascinating, with a mysterious fog rolling over a town which contains hidden, tentacled monsters, leaving a diverse bunch of survivors holed up in a supermarket, planning their next move. It's got a great cast, too, with Thomas Jane as the lead clashing with Marcia Gay Harden's religious fanatic who manages to start a cult following in the supermarket. Sometimes the budget isn't quite enough to sell the scary moments, and some of the performances are better than others, but you can beat that absolutely devastating, sadistically genius ending.
