Stephen King: Ranking His Films From Worst To Best

34. Thinner

Thinner isn't all that much better, since it's not only one of the worst films based on a Stephen King work, but one of the worst horror films in history period. €œLet the curse fit the crime€ goes the tagline, which is not an actual saying, and is the earliest hint that this is a film totally devoid of any sort of logic, sense, taste, skill, talent.... One of only two of King's €œBachman Books€ (written under a pen name) to be adapted for film, you wonder if Tom Holland shouldn't have bothered. The screenwriter and director dropped the ball with this story of an arrogant, obese lawyer (Law And Order veteran Robert John Burke) who hits an old woman with his car. The €œgypsy woman€ dies, so Burke, the judge and the arresting officer who all helped him get off get cursed by her angry father. Burke loses weight, the judge grows scales, the cop gets boils. And then it goes inexplicably Death Wish at the end. A mess of a film, with simplistic, troubling morality.
