Strange casting decisions for THE X-FILES 2

The Hollywood Reporter say that Amanda Peet, Xzibit and Scottish part-time actor and comedian Billy Conelly have joined Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny in Fox's summer tentpole movie. No word on Connelly's character yet, but the trade was able to confirm that Peet and Xzibit will be playing second fiddle to Mulder and Scully as fellow FBI agents. There was also reports earlier in the week that Timothy Olyphant would have a part in the film, the source of which seems to be the actor himself who said he would cameo in the film whilst speaking on a talk radio show. This has yet to be confirmed. Chris Carter's flick (he created the X-FILES) will have one of the quickest Hollywood turn-a-round's of the year, as it's due out in just 8 months time, although they haven't actually shot a single frame of film yet. This is one of next year's sequels I have little time for at this point and the series to me, feels more dated than nostalgic and I see no other reason to bring it back than to try and resurrect the failing careers of Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny. And as for Peet and Xzibit? The question probably is, which character dies in the screenplay first?
