1. Diablo's Mr Freeze Homage
Diablo's backstory in which it's established that he killed his wife and children in a loss of control isn't as it happens in the comics: there he accidentally kills some innocents while trying to get money out of rival criminals.
But there is an element of his story that is taken from the pages of DC comics: it's just from another villain entirely.
When Diablo creates a little flame "statue' of his wife and puts it under a glass dome to preserve it, it's very similar to the way Mr Freeze builds ice sculptures of his own tragic wife to remind him what happened.
