Suicide Squad: 15 Harley Quinn Fan Creations That Suck Less
Fans knew how it should have gone...
Not weeks after David Ayers and Warner Bros. upset a good deal of the internet and Batman fanbase, they've done it again thanks to the first official look at nine members of the Suicide Squad cast. While attention will inevitably be drawn by the more "major" players - like Will Smith's Deadshot - there is a lot to note in the ensemble reveal.
And not all of it is particularly positive. There's a Killer Croc with an unfortunate looking skin condition, a Ringu Enchantress and a varsity El Diabo. To say it was all a little uneven is something of an understatement, but that doesn't mean all of the character designs are particularly terrible.
But there is something wrong at the heart of the matter - and at the heart of the image. Though there's no doubting that the casting of Margot Robbie is a smart one, the decision to reimagine the character as a mongrel mix of the New 52 Harley (hence the shorts) and something entirely new isn't exactly enchanting.
Harley shouldn't really deviate too far away from the source (something said not so long ago, and loudly about the Joker in places), particularly because there's no precedent to compare her with on the big screen. That might be somewhat simple to say (and creatively restrictive, depending on how you feel), but the relationship between source and adaptation should have mattered more than it has for Harley.
And that is precisely why there was so much fan art dedicated to what Margot Robbie might look like: a lot of which turned out to be a hell of a lot better than what Ayers has dreamed up...
15. Going All Out
Perhaps it's a little risque (a rubber catsuit that covers very little isn't quite as mainstream as Warners are probably aiming for), but Harley is supposed to be completely out of touch with reality.
That's pretty much her thing.
