Suicide Squad 2: 10 Comics James Gunn Should Adapt

1. The Janus Directive

Wonder Woman Harley Quinn Suicide Squad

This kind of story may take a more than a couple of films to build up to, but it would be the best story to adapt onto screen.

Amanda Waller has begun to overstep her hold over the Suicide Squad, using them for her own personal agenda, the titular Janus Directive. This leads to all out war between the Suicide Squad, Checkmate and literally every special government organization in the DC Universe.

That is only the beginning, though, as Waller is found out to be a doppelgänger put in power by Kobra, the leader of a doomsday terrorist cult. He caused the war to make every government agency too busy squabbling to stop his plan of a microwave cannon in space to fry all electronics on Earth and bring about the end of the world. Eventually, the organizations stop fighting to notice the giant space ark and storm the place, saving the day.

This epic eleven issue story spans five creators and it shows in how intricate and tight the writing is. Every twist and movement flows naturally into the next, and there's a clear structure that would make this the ultimate blockbuster. There would also be the hilarity of ending James Gunn's first movie in the DCEU with a full scale assault on a space ship, so there's that too.
