Suicide Squad 2 Is Being Fast-Tracked By Warner Bros
Still no director though...
Despite the fact that the film doesn't actually have a director yet, Warner Bros are looking to speed Suicide Squad 2 into development, reinforcing the fact that they are still very much keen to show how invested in the existing DCEU they are, despite the appearance of splinters.
The film is said to be being fast-tracked with long-suspected hints that both Harley Quinn and The Joker will return (on top of appearing in their own spin-off). The news comes courtesy of THR who quote a source close to Warner Bros, following on from the news that the studio was initially looking to start filming next year.
He hasn't signed on yet, but Mel Gibson remains the first choice to direct (which is either great or terrible depending on your appreciation of him), and he will presumably be charged with making sure there's enough Harley and Mr J in there to help Warner Bros capitalise on their current fascination with the infamous characters.
It's still rather a surprise that Jared Leto would be interested in coming back for multiple movies as The Joker, but you'd have to suspect that whatever he signed on for would come with the caveat that he wouldn't be treated the same way in the edit. And maybe a different director can get something more restrained and fundamentally better out of Leto's wacky approach to performance than David Ayer managed?
