Suicide Squad: 8 Biggest Differences With Batman V Superman

2. The Marketing Strategy Is Already Very Different

From the very first teaser, Batman V Superman came across as a bit of a stake in the ground from DC. We already knew that they were trying to go uber serious when they released Man Of Steel three years ago, but Batman V Superman always looked like a doubling down of that strategy.

If the new trailers and subsequent reshoots of Suicide Squad are anything to go by, though, that strategy has taken a bit of a back seat to adopting what has worked for Marvel.

The second trailer for Suicide Squad was clearly an attempt to mimic the success of Guardians Of The Galaxy. Part of the success of that film came through its ingenious use of retro music, so the bright sparks at Warner tried to beat Marvel at their own game by editing the trailer to Queen’s legendary Bohemian Rhapsody. For the third trailer, they refined the approach even further, and the entire focus of the film seems to be in combining witty banter with explosive set pieces and catchy tunes.

Time will tell if the film actually succeeds in meshing the two approaches together with any real success, but it's clear that at the moment, DC are finding new potential in the old saying "If you can't beat them, join them."
