4. It's Not As Complex As Heath Ledger's Performance
Though there is a lot of acknowledgement of Leto's transformation, it doesn't sound like this new Joker is quite as deep as Heath Ledger's agent of chaos.
Perhaps it's because it's not his film, or that Ledger's performance has grown into something without boundaries because of its context, but Leto's is an entirely different performance, according to the popular assessment.
He's engaging for most, but he lacks that added substance that could perhaps come later in a stand-alone. Maybe it's just a matter of screen time and a screenplay that doesn't quite know what to do with him.
