Suicide Squad Reviews: 14 Early Reactions You Need To See

12. Will Smith Is The Best Squad Member

Suicide Squad Worse

Despite the early concerns about Will Smith's involvement (and the strangeness of his casting), he's actually getting a lot of love. Even the sites who are calling the film a disaster are saying his performance deserved better. And that's good news for him at least.

Here's USA Today on Smith:

"Deadshot is the movie's emotional heart, and it’s Smith's best role in years — he gets to showcase some of Concussion's deep emotion but with that old Independence Dayswagger. Jay Hernandez similarly impresses as El Diablo, a fiery L.A. gang leader with a horrific backstory."

Comicbook.com also lavished hyperbole on him:

"Will Smith is back at the top of his game, and can count this film as one of his best performances. He has such a presence on screen that whether he's facing down a hero or leader or showing off his own leadership skills, he's aces all around. His fighting sequences show a hint of his Ali past mixed with insane gunplay, too."

Maybe a spin-off isn't out of the question (as long as he survives)...
