Superman vs Batman Movie: 3 Reasons It Could Succeed & 3 Reasons It Could Fail

1. This Is The Best Way To Reintroduce Batman

The problem was, no matter how flawed "The Dark Knight Rises" was, it and its prior two installments were very, very good. And relaunching that character meant that the shadow they'd be showing up in would be cast very, very long. It's in the next point that we'll look at this even deeper from a different angle, but this needs to be said: A proven Superman from a successful blockbuster film is only going to help sell this new Batman. Get the casting right, and get the look down and you've pretty much won the relaunch in a way that a straight-up Batman reboot would have to struggle with much more substantially. Think of it this way, let's say you're going to relaunch "Batman". Who are you going to cast? Christian Bale was pretty much pitch perfect as Bruce Wayne even if you didn't like the gruff voice, and if you can't sell Wayne then your audience is going to care less about the guy in the suit even if it is a stuntman doing all the flips and punching. Who's he going to fight? The Joker? You've now got to make the audience forget Heath Ledger in his award-winning role, the one he pretty much owned - You know, the most famous villain Batman has? Your best bet for box-office bank (Batman vs. the Joker) means that you need to recast TWO iconic roles and sustain them over the course of a film. That's a tall order. A "World's Finest" film takes the pressure off but at the same time allows a strong choice for Batman to flourish in a whole new setting - Even better, it's one that has NEVER been done before in a live-action, big-screen film. So comparisons will be inevitable, but it won't force someone to hold this film up to "The Dark Knight", "Batman Begins", or even Burton's "Batman" - The character and casting can be judged, but this film is a completely different animal that is poised to succeed should all involved play to their strengths - Given the property and future franchise at stake, there's no reason to think anyone won't bring their A-game to casting, story, and production. However....nothing's guaranteed.....

In a parallel universe where game shows' final jackpots and consequent fortunes depend on knowledge of obscure music trivia and Jon Pertwee/Tom Baker Doctor Who episodes, I've probably gone rich, insane, and am now a powermad despot. But happily we're not there, so I'm actually rather pleasant. Really.
