SWEENEY TODD trailer. More blood less singing!
Movie looks better when it hides away the musical bits...
The first Sweeney Todd trailer gathered a rather mixed reaction from the Internet Community, so what of the newly released second trailer which has taken out all of musical aspects and has been revamped with more blood?
From this trailer, the movie looks like a better and more coherent film but there's still three things that are bothering me about Sweeney Todd... A) The film looks so dark. I mean I like my dark movies but there's a point when the dark, dull and gloomy atmosphere just become depressing and I think Sweeney Todd might have crossed it. I'm really starting to dislike the tone of this film. Batman Returns, Batman, Edward Scissorhands and Sleepy Hollow were all dark but yet existed in Burton's unique world of cinema and therefore had a unique tone. The Burton-esque tone. I'm not just not seeing this here. They should have gone for the type of comic book and colourful scheme of the Victorian horror picture From Hell and I thought Burton would, rather than playing it more dark and straight. B) Although obviously we've known for over 12 months now that Helena Bonham Carter and Johnny Depp were leading this thing, when it comes to this trailer I'm bloody sick of them. The same actors, over and over again is becoming extremely tiresome to me and I'm struggling to get into them as characters because of this. Burton has used these same shots in other films before and with the same actors and it's tiring me out. C) Sweeney Todd has to be somewhat likeable. You've seen Lolita right with James Mason? You need to on some level feel for Mason as a middle aged man who begins to fall in love with a teenage girl and although he's obviously a sick pervert, you have to feel his pain and actually want him to succeed. Kubrick did this superbly in Lolita. For Burton and Todd, I'm just not feeling it.source - aicn
