Taylor Lautner will undergo a hairy transformation when that NEW MOON rises

Ok, so it's time for my TWILIGHT ignorance to show once again but I will try and break it down as much as I can. So there's this actor, Taylor Lautner, who played the part of Jacob Black in the first TWILIGHT movie. Apparently in the second novel NEW MOON, his character is transformed into a werewolf and grows five feet, fills out much bigger and is five years older. So most people took it as a given that the part would have to be re-cast because the actor won't have grown in time. But according to Summit Entertainment, they liked Lautner so much from the first movie they kept him on board for the sequel. Apparently he has gained 19 pounds and wants to pack on another 10. New director Chris Weitz says...

€œI€™m very happy that Taylor will be playing Jacob Black in NEW MOON and that he€™s doing so with the enthusiastic support of Summit, the producers and Stephenie Meyer, The characters in Stephenie€™s books go through extraordinary changes of circumstance and also appearance; so it is not surprising that there has been speculation about whether the same actor would portray a character who changes in so many surprising ways throughout the series. But it was my first instinct that Taylor was, is, and should be Jacob, and that the books would be best served by the actor who is emotionally right for the part.€
TWILIGHT 2, aka NEW MOON, opens Nov. 20th 2009 and will begin filming in February/March. The first movie has to date grossed over $177 million domestically and $278 million worldwide. source - /film
